The production of medicines and medical devices in Moscow has seen a 9.8% increase from January to June 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov. Notably, the production of pharmaceutical substances surged by over 2.6 times during this timeframe. However, the six-month growth rate showed a slight decrease when compared to the January-May 2024 period, where medicine production had risen by 12.7% and pharmaceutical substances by more than 2.8 times.

In terms of physical output, the production of medicines for treating nervous system disorders grew by nearly 10%, diagnostic reagents and other pharmaceuticals by 13.1%, and adhesive dressings, catgut, and similar medical devices by an impressive 41.2%. Moscow currently hosts four inter-industry clusters, including the country’s largest pharmaceutical cluster, which comprises 13 companies. Some of these companies supply medicines to the city through offset contracts. Moscow pioneered the use of offset contracts in Russia and has since signed 22 such agreements, three of which pertain to the production of medical products.
