The Government of the Russian Federation established the Industrial Development Fund in 2014, at the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s initiative. Recently, the Fund approved a loan of over 1.2 billion rubles to the Medintech company. The funds will be used for the construction of a plant for the production of medical products in the Astrakhan region, including smart self-destructing syringes and catheters. This was announced by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of the region Ilya Volynsky.
“We expect the long-awaited construction of the medical devices plant to resume this year,” he added. Let us remind you: the creation of production began in 2016, but the project was frozen first due to lack of funding, and then due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to preliminary estimates, the plant will produce about 200 million syringes per year – this is approximately the annual requirement of the Southern Federal District. The peculiarity of smart syringes, as Ramazan Fayziev, the then general director of Medintech, said in 2018, is that the needle is automatically retracted into the syringe after it is used. This allows you to avoid accidental injuries and infections.
