In 2023, the Russian Ministry of Health registered a total of 540 medicines, with less than half, specifically 160 (29.6%), being of foreign origin. This was stated by the head of the department, Mikhail Murashko, emphasizing that “Russian pharma has begun to create innovative products.”
The minister added that in 2023, eight new production sites for the production of medicines will be opened in the country. Now, according to him, the most pressing issue is the further formation of research and production sites, accelerating the release of new regulatory mechanisms that will reduce the time interval between the idea and its implementation.
“When we create new products, we definitely need to understand how quickly they will reach the patient, including a certain category of patients who have a serious illness. We must think that if there is a development that allows us to give a chance subject to certain ethical standards, scientific justification and, of course, the consent of the patient himself, it should be implemented,” Murashko said, answering questions during the educational medical forum Sechenov.Pro.
