Russia and China have the potential to collaborate and elevate the medicinal plant growing industry. This is an opportunity for the two countries to formalize their partnership and enhance the supply of high-value processed products from Russia to China. Despite current limitations, Alexander Dvoinykh, head of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management, believes that the existing cooperation falls short of economic interests.
He led the Russian delegation in Beijing and, together with representatives of the Federation Council, visited the Tongrentan company, which produces medicines from plants. “We discussed the readiness of Chinese enterprises to develop production here and the possible placement of processing facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation. <…> We saw serious interest here and realized that we have very good potential in this regard,” Dvoynykh emphasized.
According to him, the Russian medicinal plant growing industry has “huge potential.” In turn, in China many medicines are made from plant materials. Preliminarily, Chinese companies are interested in locating their processing plants in Russia.
