In his speech at Innoprom International Industrial Trade Fair, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin said that Russia needs to immediately launch the processes that would make the country’s pharma industry completely independent of foreign components.
“The pandemic has clearly shown how important it is to have a self-sufficient pharmaceutical industry. Now it is obvious to everyone that this is a strategic industry ensuring the country’s security. We have managed to establish production of vaccines and medicines, but part of the success was based on imported components. That is why we have to immediately begin to work towards technological independence in respect of biological and chemical substances, raw materials, and equipment,” Interfax quotes Mishustin as saying.
According to him, the most important segment in this industry is low-tonnage chemicals. The Prime Minister stressed that instructions for the development of this sphere have already been given.
“Own low-tonnage production is needed not only for pharma, but also for a wide range of industries, from food industry and household chemicals to mechanical engineering and construction materials industry, as well as for the development of radio electronics, which is the foundation of the digitalization of the economy,” the head of the Cabinet said.
