Svetlana Akselrod from Russia joins the leadership team of WHO

Svetlana Akselrod, an employee of the Department of International Projects in Healthcare, Institute of Leadership and Healthcare Management, Sechenov University, joined the new leadership team of WHO.

WHO Director-General Dr. A. Tedros announced the official appointment of the World Health Organization senior leadership team. The team includes the representatives of 6 WHO regions from 14 countries. Svetlana Akselrod is an employee of WHO Office of Noncommunicable Diseases in the Russian Federation, which was opened on the basis of Sechenov University in 2015. In addition, she is an Associate Professor at the Department of International Projects in Healthcare, Institute of Leadership and Healthcare Management, and was appointed the Assistant Director-General of WHO for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health.

Svetlana Akselrod said, “I feel very honored to have been appointed Assistant Director-General of WHO for this area. The Russian Federation plays an important role in the control of noncommunicable diseases at the global level, which gives me the opportunity to contribute to the efforts of international community for achieving one of the goals set by the UN General Assembly — to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.”
