These drugs should improve the quality of life for the patients, including those with advanced forms of cancer. This was announced by the Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova at a meeting of the Council on Guardianship under the Government of the Russian Federation
“I would like to note that oncology is one of the five areas in the accelerated innovative development of biomedicine. There are many interesting activities in that area. This includes the study of carcinogenesis, research of metastasis mechanisms and, of course, the emergence of the new personalized pharmacology which, primarily, involves targeted immunotherapy, and we already have 26 drugs that are at the different phases of trials and should significantly change the situation by increasing both the life expectancy and quality of life of cancer patients, including those with the advanced stage of cancer,” she said.
In addition, this year will mark the opening of two centers in the area of nuclear medicine.
“We calculated the rates for including the new methods of treatment in the program of state guarantees,” said the Minister.
More than 33 billion rubles were allocated for chemotherapy treatment in the hospitals to 194,000 patients with oncological diseases, said Ms. Skvortsova.
